Conventions of genre

The genre of my magazine is R&B/Pop.

Conventions of R&B

Men's Fashion:

• Male R&B artists usually appear in photo-shoots and music videos; topless, or wearing open shirts showing a lot of flesh. This is because male R&B artists target market is young girls who like this sort of stuff. 
• Jeans, which are usually baggy (showing top of man's boxers) are a popular item of fashion for R&B artists, along side a designer belt for advertisement purposes. 
• A large majority of male R&B artists also have tattoos of which they tend to show of a lot. This makes the man seem 'hard' and respected by R&B lovers. 
• Chains, watches and the one earring are also worn by these artists. These jewelry items make the artists look classy and modern. Once again this is a way of advertising the items.

Usher

Women's Fashion

• Women also wear minimal clothing, usually showing off their stomaches or legs. This is because to male fans they are seen as sex symbols. 
• Female R&B artists' make up is done so it is bold and defined, especially around the eyes. 
• They seem to wear red lipstick to look powerful and sexy. 
• The artists' hair is always done up big and dramatic, this is so they can stand out and look fierce. 
• Heels are usually worn to elongate their legs when showing their legs. Trainers are also sometimes worn.
• Jewelry like big earring, necklaces and rings are worn to look classy and to add detail to their outfits.

Keri Hilson

Behavior

Both male and female artists have a certain kind of behavior. They usually have a cocky and loud personality.  This is a way of making them noticed and remembered, so they sell better to an audience that like that 'type'.

Conventions of Pop 

Men's Fashion

• Once again men tend to show a lot of skin, wearing no tops so they interest young girls. 
• But pop male artists, seem to be more innocent and sweet looking. Still showing off their boxers but they tend not to have tattoos or keeping them minimal.
• Jewelry are also worn, but keeping it simple and modern.

Women's Fashion

• Women pop artists again wear little clothing, showing of their stomaches. However, they are portraying more innocent and good girls because they are seen as role models for younger female audiences, but still keeping a sexy side to attract male fans.
• Pop artists have their make up plain and fresh, giving them a cute and sweet image. 
• There jewelry are kept simple and modern, but giving them an expensive and classy look, again for advertisement purposes.
• Heels are worn to elongate their legs, making them look better when showing them.

Behavior

Pop artists behavior are more innocent and good. These kind of artists try to become icons to younger generations and to set a trend to sell themselves and their music products.
